India has a mix of public and private sector banks. There are about 20+ Nationalized banks, 20+ Private Banks, and about 75+ Regional rural banks. These are the indigenous entities. Apart from them, there is a long list of foreign banks with a presence in the Indian market. Still, the total number of bank offices in 2009 was 82,845, which means the Average Population per Bank Office is about 14,000 for the country, which is a pretty large figure.
