Most of the candidates of Indian Railway jobs are not familiar with the RRB ALP post. Assistant Loco Pilot was previously known as the ASSISTANT Driver. The Driver is responsible to carry the train safely to its destination. They’re playing a key role in Railway’s safe & punctual running of trains with security and productivity.

Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) Technician
To fine tune the locomotives and assist the loco driver to carry out the movement of the train safely. To attend and maintain the failure of equipment.
To call out signals once sighted. To work in indoor as well as in outdoor (if required) under the Senior Section Engineer or Junior Engineer.
To attend minor repairs of the locomotives. To ensure the safety of people and Trains at Railway crossings.
To check the efficiency of the locomotives regularly. To evaluate the locomotive equipment regularly.
To understand and identify the defects in tracks To remove debris and overgrown brush surrounding a rail road side.

  • To get promoted to the post of Loco Pilot (Goods), an ALP requires a minimum of 2 years as a diesel assistant/electric assistant and 60,000 Km of running experience.
  • An assistant driver works as an assistant on goods trains, then on passenger trains, and finally on express trains.
