RRB Group D Syllabus 2018 with detailed Exam Pattern

As per the Railways Recruitment Board Notification 2018, the Indian Railways will recruit young and competent Group D employees in Level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix for 16 cities all across India. The RRB Group D 2018 vacancy is for various units of India Railways.

Making a plan before starting anything is very important and so an exam is no exception, even, every aspirant is advised to go through each and every detail of the exam i.e. Syllabus, Exam pattern, Vacancy, Eligibility and Skills etc. So, you must be aware of all these before you start preparing for the RRB Group D Exam 2018.

RRB Group D Exam Pattern & Selection Procedure

RRB Group D selection will be based on 3 stages as follows:

  • Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Test

Computer Based Test

Negative Marking:

Negative marking is very common in exam these days. In some exams, 1/4th marks get deducted and in some 1/3rd. However, in this RRB Group D exam, 1/3rd of your marks will be deducted for every wrong answer as penalty.


Your performance in the Computer Based Test (CBT) will be the deciding factor to let you through to the second phase viz. the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The RRB will call you for the PET based on your merit in the CBT, however, PET will be qualifying in nature.

Document Verification

Based on the performance of candidates in the CBT subject to their qualifying in PET, candidates will be called for document verification.

In case of two or more candidates securing same marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., older person shall be given higher seniority. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates.

Railways Recruitment Board Group D Syllabus


The total number of questions will be 100 and the time allowed will be 90 minutes. Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%. This percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PWD candidates in case of shortage of PWD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

The questions will be of objective type with multiple choices and are more likely to include questions pertaining to:

RRB Group D 2018 Results

The result of the CBT will be announced by the Railways Recruitment Board after conducting the exam. Those who qualify the CBT will be allowed to appear for the PET. The result of PET will be declared after the Physical Test gets successfully conducted by the Railways Recruitment Board.
